Education is dead. Long live education! - 12/01/2009
‘We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For’, the 90-minute documentary by New Moon Television which examines the worldwide crisis in modern education, is nearing completion.
This landmark documentary explores the extent to which young people around the world are being failed by an education system created at the time of the Industrial Revolution. Described as a 'provocative and relevant exploration of the most important issue of our time', ‘We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For’ confronts our expectations of what education systems ought to be achieving for our children.
Anchored around the personal experiences of five teens from industrial British - the very heartland of the origins of the modern education system - the film shows that that the youth of today depend on their education to equip them with so much more than the customary ‘Three R’s’; today, problem-solving, adaptability and digital literacy are just as essential for success in life and yet students continue to leave school without having been given enough opportunities to develop these skills.
Sharing their experiences of a failing system and supporting the need for change is a raft of high-profile contributors including Sir Richard Branson, Germaine Greer, Henry Winkler, Bill Bryson and Sir Ken Robinson.
‘We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For’ For humanizes these issues with the intention of provoking an urgent re-evaluation of formal education practices in the 21st Century. As Producer Caroline Rowland says: 'If we are to properly prepare the next generation for the world that they will inherit, education does not need an evolution, it’s time for a revolution!'
The production team includes Caroline Rowland and Daryl Goodrich (the producer-director team behind the award-winning short films 'Sport at Heart' and 'Inspiration' which were screened at the London Film Festival in 2005 and were credited as being a critical element of London winning the right to host the 2012 Olympic Games), with Lord Puttnam as Executive Producer (producer of Academy Award winning ‘The Killing Fields’ and ‘Chariots of Fire’).
‘We Are The People We’ve Been Waiting For’ is currently in post-production, for release in early 2009.

New Moon's Triple Jump at Beijing - 14/08/2008
New Moon is once again at the forefront of Olympic storytelling. As the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games opened, New Moon was producing films for not one, not two, but three Olympic clients.
New Moon shot to prominence after producing the two films that underpinned the London 2012 Olympic Bid, and has since developed and produced creative elements for Beijing 2008 and Sochi 2016.
As Beijing’s successor, London 2012 was showcased during the Beijing Games at London House. London House was an ambassador in Beijing for London’s tourism and cultural resources. New Moon was commissioned to produce the short film, The London Experience, specifically for London House in Beijing.
Tokyo 2016 is bidding for the next Summer Olympics and kicked off its international communications campaign with a press conference in Beijing. Tokyo 2016 enlisted New Moon to help launch its Bid and the resultant film, Musubi Sashes, spectacularly brings to life the Bid City’s theme of ‘Uniting Our Worlds’.
The International Softball Federation (ISF) is spearheading the BackSoftball campaign, aimed at having softball reinstated as an Olympic sport. While softball was played at Beijing, it will not be seen at London, and BackSoftball is working to have it included in the 2016 Games. New Moon was on the ground in Beijing, shooting the softball preliminaries for a promotional film that highlights the fact that softball is one of the world’s most accessible and inclusive of sports.
There is now no doubt as to why New Moon is the production company for Olympic storytelling.
