The story
Education systems around the world are in crisis! After sharing many conversations
about the impact of this on society with Lord Puttnam, several foundations pooled
their resources to produce ‘an inconvenient truth about education’. We Are The
People We’ve Been Waiting For presents the problem, outlines the challenge and
starts to explore possible solutions to providing the next generation with the sort of
education that will help them to navigate and succeed against the backdrop of
the most challenging world conditions in history.
Who was listening?
The film will be distributed in cinemas and at special interest events from October
2009 and will be screened on TV channels around the world from January 2010.
How it was told?
The film is based around the stories of 5 young people from Swindon, the microcosm
of British society in the 21st Century. Their challenges and opinions form the basis
of comment from a diverse range of experts and opinion formers including Sir Ken
Robinson, Sir Richard Branson, Henry Winkler, Bill Bryson and Germaine Greer.
How well it was told?
Even in advance of release, the film is provoking debate in many quarters. Lord
Puttnam has begun screening the opening 12 minutes at conferences and events
where the objective of ‘changing the debate’ has been met in abundance. The
release in October will be accompanied by a PR campaign that calls on adults to
engage in the campaign to change the system.
