The story
In 2007, High Speed 1 was completed, linking Britain into the rapidly growing European high-speed rail network. This extraordinary project allowed Eurostar trains to travel at almost 200mph right into the heart of London, to the glorious St Pancras station.
Who was listening?
An invited audience of the one thousand most influential people and influencers in Britain, including the Prime Minister, gathered at St Pancras Station for the Royal Opening in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.
How it was told?
The story was visualised through 4 different films, projected onto massive suspended screens to serve as a counterpoint for live performances illustrating the history of the glorious station and the significance of the railway to industrial Britain.
Three ‘chapters’ invited the audience into the personal perspectives of David Coultard commenting on High Speed 1, Kristin Scott Thomas on Eurostar and Terence Stamp on St Pancras. The Grand Finale wove the chapters together in a piece of visual poetry entitled ‘The New Age of Travel’, which echoed the lyrical iambic pentameter of ‘The Night Mail’.
